Why there’s something for everyone at The Amazing Northampton Run

One of the aspects I like most about putting on the races we do is being able to offer a wide-range of different challenges and events.

As anyone who has seen my story will know, I’m not averse to the challenge of a particularly gnarly ultra – but, of course, that’s not for everyone which is why we put on events ranging from 5k up to our multi-day ultra adventure in Nepal.

I was particularly pleased to see so many people taking on the three-quarter marathon, a new distance for us and one which beautifully breaches the gap between half- and full marathon, at Shires & Spires earlier this year.

Which brings me on to The Amazing Northampton Run. Of course, this event includes our flagship half-marathon, a race which is my baby and which I am loving seeing grow and flourish. But I always like to remind people that it is about far more than that.

The Amazing Northampton Run, which takes place on Sunday, September 15, also features our three-mile race and relay. These events give runners an option away from the potentially daunting 13.1 miles of the full event, and the chance to be part of a team.

The three-mile race is run on some of the same route as the half, featuring its start and the finish sections connected by an exclusive link part through the beautiful Beckets Park.

It starts on St Giles Street (on the junction with Castilian Street) near Fish Street, and then takes in sites including the birthday-celebrating Carlsberg Brewery, Northampton Marina, the Guildhall, Angel Square and our museum and art gallery.

Not bad for three miles!

The half-marathon relay is a real favourite of mine, and I love to see teams coming together to complete their race.

It is a three-stage race, with competitors enjoying Northampton’s three sporting stadia, our history and heritage, and two beautiful parks.

These are the steps your team will take on to tackle the run:

  • Stage 1 – Start to Franklins Gardens Rugby Stadium (approx 4.3 miles)

  • Stage 2 – Franklins Gardens Rugby Stadium to the Abington Park Museum Entrance (approx 4.1 miles)

  • Stage 3 – Abington Park Museum Entrance to the Finish (approx 4.7 miles)

We don’t always get to work as a team when we’re running, so this is a great opportunity to grab a couple of friends and work together to achieve your goal.
