Imagine you’ve just run 47-miles. Your body, and quite possibly soul, are exhausted. Blisters. Dehydration. Aching muscles.
Basically all those joyous things that make us love ultra running.
What would you most want? Toilets? Showers? Hot soup and rolls? Tea and coffee? Heaters? Somewhere warm to change?
If the answer is all of the above, then the new finishing point for our Thames Trail event could be just what you’re after!
From this year, we are moving the event’s finish line to the YMCA Y Centre, in Lawson Road, Henley-on-Thames. It’s not far from our previous finishing line, but has the added benefits of a big hall, a kitchen, male and female changing rooms, toilets and showers.
The venue will also be equipped with heaters, and runners will be able to grab warming soup and a roll, as well as tea and coffee.
It’s a move our Country to Capital Ultrarunners will recognise, with this year’s C2C finishing at the Stowe Centre – a welcome respite after taking on the Grand Union Canal.
We’re sure people will find the YMCA equally comforting!
For those not aware of the Thames Trail Ultra it is a point-to-point race running from Iffley, Oxfordshire to Henley-on-Thames.
A demanding run along England’s largest river, it takes in ever changing scenery, beautiful houses and traditional rowing clubs. Entrants should expect everything from tarmac paths to muddy trails.
A quick note on cut-off times as well, as people have previously commented they may be a little tight. We’ll be extending the cut-off by 30 minutes to recognise that and to accommodate the new finish.
