As we move ever closer to marathon season and runners start to compete in longer distances and up their training, I wanted to look back on the flying start to the running year we have already seen at Go Beyond Challenge.
Not only have we seen the course record smashed at our ultra season curtain-raising Country to Capital event, we’ve also enjoyed getting down and dirty at two brilliant trail run events.
Back in January, our annual Irchester Dirt Run saw incredible performances galore with Abi Atkinson smashing the women’s 5k course record and Jonny Repp doing the same in the 15km race.
Then it was time to take the Dirt Run on tour as we headed to Brigstock. The first ever Brigstock Dirt Run didn’t disappoint with runners treated to views of the beautiful Grade 1 listed Lyvden New Bield – on those occasions where they were they were able to lift their eyes from the mud and puddles on the ground that is!
The orchard at Lyvden New Bield provides part of the area's spectacular beauty
I’ve written before about my desire to create a Dirt Run Series across Northamptonshire, and the success of these races has only made me more determined.
There is something special about those local events that scream Northamptonshire and take advantage of the fantastic local parks and villages we have in the county.
While we all ‘enjoy’ the build up to the large-scale road running events of spring and early summer, I’d urge you all to remember the fun and camaraderie these smaller, hyperlocal races bring.
If you’ve not run in our Dirt Run events, check out all the details here. We have a variety of distances so there is something for everyone.
